Alex Chappell
Alex Chappell, born October 10, 1988, is an American journalist who covers the Washington Nationals for the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network. She is also a sideline reporter for ESPN and SEC Network, covering college football.
Education and early life
Chappell was born in Bethesda (Maryland). Her father, Phillip Corddry, was a left-handed pitcher at the University of Maryland. She spent the 1969 and 1972 seasons with the Boston Red Sox. She graduated from Walt Whitman High School in Alabama and the University of Alabama. While in college, she interned at WJLA, Washington, D.C.
Chappell became a supporter of the Washington Nationals in 2005 after the team moved from Montreal. They had previously played as the Montreal Expos from 1969 to 2004. She admired former MASN field reporter Amber Theoharis (now Kristina Fitzpatrick) during the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals broadcasts.
Career
Chappell graduated from the University of Alabama and worked as a sports reporter at a CBS affiliate in Birmingham. She worked briefly on Redskins Nation, NBC Sports Washington, and as a sports reporter at WHDH in Boston, Massachusetts. TBS covered the 2019 Major League Baseball playoffs. She was also the pre-and post-game reporter at Bally Sports Florida for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2017. She then became MASN’s field reporter for the Washington Nationals games broadcasts in 2019 and 2020. The Nationals hired her as their substitute anchor and pre-game and postgame anchor when MASN eliminated the field reporter position from coverage of Nationals games starting in 2021.
Personal life
In January 2019, Chappell married Scott Chappell (an attorney). Her cousins are actors and former Daily Show correspondents Nate Corddry and Rob Corddry. On May 31, 2022, Chappell shared via Instagram that she was expecting a baby girl in November.
